the French horn. He attended University of Southern California, followed by the
Pacific University. Teaching classical music theory, Walter began working with
various Los Angeles-area musicians.
Walter soon began working with a singer-songwriter who went by E and drummer
Butch Norton as Eels. After their promising debut, Beautiful Freak, Walter left
the band due to differences with E. He formed a short-lived band, Tely, who
released a CD that was distributed on the internet. He was also in the touring
band for the Ken Andrews solo project ON, though in the end the band saw little touring.
Later he went on to form Abandoned Pools.

lyrics are political in nature, and are about the state of affairs in America. That's the big picture; overall,
the album painted little portraits of post-millennium America, focusing on economics. The songs had to do
with money and what people will do to get it, be it huge debt (Man and Wife, the Former) or an alienated
marriage and lives ripped apart by the need to follow the dollar at any cost (Man and Wife, the Latter).

front-man Badly Drawn Boy. Doves' second album The Last Broadcast was released two years later, reaching #1 in the UK album chart
and was again nominated for the Mercury Music Prize. This record contained the track "There Goes the Fear", which reached #3 in
the UK singles chart despite only being released for one day before it was deleted. In 2003 the band released a B-sides compilation,
Lost Sides, and a DVD entitled Where We're Calling From, recorded live at a gig in Cornwall's Eden Project.

when Robert Turner and Peter Hayes met while attending high school in their hometown of San Francisco.
They formed a solid friendship and camaraderie based on a mutual love of early-'90s U.K. bands like Ride
and the Stone Roses and a few on the successful Creation Records label (The Jesus and Mary Chain,
My Bloody Valentine). They ultimately decided to put their as-yet-unnamed project on hold, and joined
other bands while still attempting to keep in touch with each other; frequently they would attend each
other's gigs. In 1998, after both had fled their previous groups, they rejoined, this time adding new
drummer Nick Jago. (Jago, originally from England, had finished art school to move to the States in 1996).
